Motorcycle Passenger in critical condition after crashing with car, NYPD says

A passenger on a motorcycle was left in critical condition Tuesday night after the bike he was riding on struck a turning car.

The police were called to 28th Avenue and 34th Street in Astoria at 7:15 pm following a collision involving a 2003 Infiniti vehicle and a 2013 Honda motorcycle.

Zhylijen Cacurri, 24, was riding a motorcycle west on 28th Avenue. with a 29-year-year old passenger on the bike behind him ,when the vehicle cut in front of him while making a left turn from 34th Street, police said.

Cacurri put on the brakes but still hit the car, which sent both riders flying. Both men were transported to Elmhurst hospital, with the passenger in critical condition while Cacurri was in stable condition.

Dereck Ayala, 26, the driver of the Infiniti, was arrested and charged with violating a court order that any vehicle he operates be equipped with a breath alcohol ignition interlock device, the NYPD said.

Ayala was taken to Elmhurst hospital in stable condition.

He was not believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the incident. The investigation is still ongoing.

East Elmhurst man busted for a fatal collision in Flushing Meadows Corona Park on the 4th of July: NYPD

A Queens grand jury indicted an East Elmhurst man in connection to a July 4th fatal collision at Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

Yersson Diaz, 27, of Ericsson Street just south of LaGuardia Airport, appeared at Queens Criminal Court for a summons on Tuesday and was taken into custody, according to an NYPD spokeswoman. He was booked Tuesday afternoon at the 110th Precinct in Elmhurst, where he was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
