A new restaurant offering authentic Indian street food has opened its doors in Astoria.

Tikka Roll House, located at 34-14 30th Avenue, opened November 3 and offers an array of unique dishes, specializing in kati rolls and curry, as well as traditional Calcutta fare.

The restaurant is owned by Syed Hossain, who already owns Indian eateries in Williamsburg and Kew Gardens.

Hossain opened his Astoria location with authentic kati rolls and street food in mind. “There are a few kati roll places in Manhattan, but to me they aren’t very authentic,” he said.

Hossain recruited Muhammad Kabir Mia as his chef. Mia grew up in Bangladesh and began his career as a chef for Biman Bangladesh Airlines, before moving to the United States in 2008 and working at several Indian restaurants in New York.

“There are a lot of Indian restaurants here, but a lot of their foods are so Americanized, and a lot of restaurants don’t sell authentic food anymore,” Hossain said, adding that he brings an authentic Calcutta street food experience to the neighborhood.

Though Hossain began with a focus on Kati Rolls, he found that he wanted to bring elements of his two other restaurants to the menu as well.

In addition to the classic kati rolls, which consist of meat and other ingredients rolled in paratha bread, the menu also has various curry bowls, popular Indian appetizers and Nizami Biryani, a seasoned rice and meat dish.

The restaurant also has many vegetarian options on the menu.

The restaurant seats 38 people at tables and at a bar area, and the restaurant is BYOB.

It is open seven days per week, on Sunday through Thursday from Noon to 1 a.m. and on Friday and Saturday from Noon to 2 a.m.
