Movie buffs will have the chance to get a behind the scenes look at Martin Scorsese’s most famous films.

The first major exhibit dedicated to the famous director and producer will take place at the Museum of the Moving Image starting December 11. The exhibit will give visitors through April 23 access to various artifacts from his work.

The museum will also hold screenings of his films while the exhibit takes place.

The exhibition will include production material from his significant films, such as costumes, props, storyboards, set photographs, screenplays, and more from throughout his career, as well as objects from his childhood and projections of scenes from his films.

The materials will be organized thematically throughout the exhibit, fitting in to the categories Family, Brothers, Men and Women, Lonely Heroes, New York, Cinema, Cinematography, Editing, and Music.

Scorsese was born in Flushing, and rose to fame during the 1970s with his films Mean Streets and Taxi Driver, and became known for his gritty portrayal of New York City in many of his films.

Over the last four decades, Scorsese has made dozens of renowned films, and is notable for his extensive work with actors Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio.

In 1990, Scorsese began the Film Foundation, which has restored hundreds of classic films over the years.

A screening series of his six films since 2000 will run from December 16 to 24, and will begin with Martin Scorsese in the 21st Century, followed by The Departed, Gangs of New York, Shutter Island, The Aviator, Hugo, and The Wolf of Wall Street.

The museum will also show a selection of films restored by the Film Foundation.
