Long Island City-based pizzeria opens in Astoria

A slice of Long Island City has made its way to Astoria.

The popular pizzeria, sLICe, which opened on Vernon Boulevard in Long Island City nearly 18 months ago, has taken over space on 30th Avenue, opening another pizza joint by the same name.

“The one in Long Island City is doing really well,” said co-owner Anthony Perez, who along with his business partners own sLICe, Blend and Blend on the Water in Long Island City.

The menu at the 37-08 30th Avenue will be the same as what it is in Long Island City and the look is very similar, Perez said.

A New York style pie goes for around $17 and a slice $2.50. The venue offers items such as wings, meatball sandwiches, heroes, salads, pasta and fried calamari.

“There is a yearning for New York style pizza, something simple that people can remember from their childhood,” he said.

The venue has space for about 12 customers and there is backyard space. Perez said that they plan to open the rear yard next summer.

A “yearning for New York style pizza”, on a stretch of road with no fewer than four pizza places, seems just a tad overstated.
