Trestle, offering American bistro, opens on Broadway by owner of Rocky McBride’s and P.J. Leahy’s

Feb. 14, 2017 By Hannah Wulkan

A new American bistro celebrated its grand opening in Astoria this weekend.

Trestle, a new restaurant at 34-02 Broadway with a focus on upscale American dishes, hosted its grand opening Friday, showing off the bridge and tunnel-themed interior and unique menu.

Owned by local restaurateur Joe Brown, who also owns Rocky McBride’s on 23rd Avenue and P.J. Leahy’s on Vernon Boulevard in Long Island City, Trestle embraces its theme with beams across the ceiling to look like the underside of a bridge.

The menu offers seasonal specialties under chef Shawn Hewitt, who has worked under several famous chefs including David Burke and Bobby Flay over the past 20 years, and was most recently the executive chef at BarBacon in Manhattan.

It features fresh seafood brought in from Montauk, and classic American dishes such as steak, chops, soups and sandwiches.

Other dishes include twists on classics such as pulled pork dumplings, fish tacos and seasonal salads, among others.

“I was born into a family of chefs from Montauk and we had six restaurants so I spent a lot of my childhood in front of the stoves learning my father’s secrets,” Hewitt told the Astoria Post in November.

The restaurant also has a full bar with a specialty cocktail menu and an extensive selection of beers.

The location was most recently home to PizzAstoria.
